Practising Management Consultant Certification Scheme
Background
In May 2007, to meet the changing needs of the management consulting industry in the local market, the Institute of Management Consultants (IMC) Singapore introduced the Practising Management Consultant (PMC) Certification Scheme.
With the support of Spring Singapore, an independently run Practising Management Consultant Certification Board was formed to manage the PMC certification scheme and certify consultants.
Structure of IMC and the PMC Certification Board
IMC and the PMC Certification Board (PMC-CB) is overseen by the Board of Governors and a Panel of Advisors comprising the Chief Executive of Spring Singapore, Chief Executive Officer of International Enterprise Singapore and Chief Executive of the Workforce Development Agency.
The Board of Governors is headed by Dr Ahmad Magad, Group MD of II-VI Singapore Pte Ltd and MP for Pasir Ris – Punggol GRC. The IMC Council is headed by its President Dr Teo Cheng Swee.

Though the PMC Certification Board is independently run from IMC Singapore, both parties work closely to enhance the interests of the management consultancy profession in Singapore.
About the Scheme
The PMC Certification Scheme, supported by SPRING Singapore, IE Singapore and WDA, aims to build a pool of competent management consultants in Singapore and to promote the PMC designation as a mark of quality assurance. The PMC Certification Scheme certifies the consulting process competency of the consultant, ie. whether he or she is able to carry out a management consultancy project professionally. It is not a test of the consultant’s technical or domain knowledge.
With the scheme in place, enterprises are able to identify management consultants who possess the skills and experience for their projects. The list of PMCs can be viewed on the PMC website. In addition, as all PMCs are bound by a strict code of professional conduct, enterprises can have recourse against negligent consultants via the PMC Disciplinary Proceedings.
For consultants, being certified as a PMC is testament to his or her competency and experience. Potential clients will have increased confidence when hiring PMCs for consultancy projects. In addition, as all PMCs are committed to the Continuing Professional Education programme, they will be constantly updated on knowledge, tools and trends in the consultancy industry.
